How many bottles of wine are consumed each year around the world?
The amount of wine consumed worldwide is not all bottled, but we can estimate it to 24 billion liters of wine. This figure is the world’s annual consumption, equivalent to 33 billion bottles of wine. Out of these, 13% is consumed in the US, 11.6% in France, 9.2% in Italy, 7.8% in Germany and 7.1% in China.
Greece represents 1.2% of global consumption. That means that the Greeks drink wine that is equivalent to 400 million bottles per year or 37 bottles per head per year.
Nevertheless, best drinkers have turned out to be the few inhabitants of Vatican. For each of them, corresponds 98 bottles a year!
